The schools in Argyll offer free pre schooling with the area’s primary schools having consistently exceeded national attainment measures. National test results place the schools in Argyll and Bute at the top end of Scottish attainment. In addition, school children from this area have a higher than national take-up of higher education placements. At secondary school level, Argyll and Bute has an impressive average of over 90% of pupils achieving at least five standard grades at foundation, general or credit level and an average of over 20% of pupils achieving three Higher grades or more.
What about the weather in Argyll? Due to the effects of the gulf stream, coastal Argyll has relatively frost-free winters and warm summers with exquisite sunsets setting the mountains aglow. The west coast is wetter than the east but that only adds to the lushness of the temperate forest of oak, birch and pine that cloak the hillsides. Coming from Dorset on the south coast of England, we are often surprised at how Dorset can be cool and wet whereas we are bathed in glorious sunshine up here in Argyll. It is definitely not true that Argyll is always cold and wet. You’ll have to come and see for yourself...
